With so many new players here building housing and yard wand deco for their yards without reading what is and isn't allowed, it needs to be reposted for all to see again.
Also keep in mind when you build your house, unless you own BOTH houses, you need to leave a 10-tile perimeter around the other person's house so you aren't infringing on their property rights to decorate. This is not OSI, nor is it "my other shard" where you can build on top of someone else and stop them from building. Leave them their space, please. It's their right to have a yard and decorate it.
We have also found several instances of exploiting where yard deco was more than 10 tiles from a player's house. This is removed by staff. No questions asked.
Haazen has had this posted for a very long time in another spot here on the forum, from 2004, 2005, and 2007. I am reposting his post to refresh this for everyone so you don't get angry at staff for telling you your deco is illegal and must be removed.
Yard Deco Tool

There is now a Yard Deco Tool available on the vendor stone near Brit bank. This tool can be used to place items around your house. The present limit is 10 tiles in all directions from your house foundatin. This 10 tile limit may be changed in the future if I deem it needed. The tool is pretty self explanitory. There are hundreds of items that can be added like trees, fences, steps and many different ground tiles. Each item you place will deduct the cost from your bank box.
A few basic rules. Please do not block any passage of players around your house. If your house is placed in a narrow passageway, leave room for players to get by your house.
Stairs can be placed then rotated by double clicking them. If you place an item wrong, some can be deleted by double clicking them and others by single click then click sell on the menu. I do not know all of how everything works, so expeiment with it. You'll figure it out.
Because I don't know all there is to know about the system, please let me know if you find bugs or exploits.
Enjoy.

It was not forseen by me that further rules and guidlines needed to be added for this feature. But it needs to be now.
The Yard tool is a Deco tool NOT a major construction tools. I do not deem buildings as deco. I do not deem blocks stacked 5 to 10 high as deco. These are construction.
The yard tool will be used for ground level placement only. Minimal stacking is OK. i.e. Place a Block and put a flower on top. This is deco.
Construction over water is not permitted. A boat dock and pathways to it are permitted. Water deco and plant deco tying the land to the water is permitted. Building new acreage over the water is NOT permitted.
You may NOT build stairs outside the bounds of your house foundation. A staircase, built with the yard wand, to upper floors that are outside the foundation are not deco, it is construction and not allowed.
You may NOT build decks outside your foundation bounds above the ground floor. Exception: You MAY build small balcony's on upper floors limited to 5 tiles wide and 2 tiles out from the house. A balcony running around the house is not allowed.
You may NOT connect multiple houses with the yard wand except pathways on the ground level only.
There is no way for me to state every possible angle that this tool could be used. But the intent of it's purpose should be very clear.
None of this is to try to limit creativity. But it is intended to limit server item count. Huge item counts affect all players. Slows save and load times. Creates lag for everyone.

I would like folks to review the rules about the use of the Yard wand. I am seeing several folks building house extensions with it. Building a ground level deck and adding plants to your yard is how it was intended. Building extensions to upper floors is not the intention of the Yard Tool. If you have added decks on upper floors, please remove them.
I will amend the rule to allow small balconies on upper floors. I do mean SMALL. No more than 2 tiles out and 4 or 5 tiles long. Small window balconies look good. A huge protrusion floating in the air does not look good. It looks out of place.
I truly hate to put limits and I don't find it easy to do. So please help out with this and clean up these issues.
As staff here, it shouldn't be necessary for us to run around to everyone's house to police their activity. That should be the player's responsibility to follow the set guidelines. They aren't difficult and there is still a lot of creativity and imagination while staying within the simple guidelines. No one is being forced into a cookie-cutter box.
