EA Games has made a leap towards the new KR release they have coming. Apparently, the latest client patch 6.0.0.0 and 6.0.1.1 have changed the maps for Felucca and Trammel. I will try to explain what I understand.
In the past, there was 1 map file for both Trammel and Felucca. There were a few other file called diff files. These told the client the slight differences between Trammel and Felucca. For example, the different layout of Ocllo and Haven. The diff files made those differences.
Now they have 2 separate map files, one for each facet. No more diff files used.
These new patches do not forbid you from logging on to PF. What can happen is something like this. The server is patched to client 5.0.9 and has 1 map file and uses the diff files. If you are patched to client 6, you may walk through walls you see on the second map that are not on the server, You may run into a wall from the old files that you do not see and you can't get through it. It is not clear how many of these things exist. I know all the woods West of haven have been built up into town. So my guess, running around out there with the new client would be hard. Just no sure.
But for now, I have no plans to just to the next patch on the server. Nor my client either. My client is 5.0.9.1. We will stay here for the near future. At least until all this new stuff is understood.
If you do patch past 5.0.9.1, you can get back in a few ways. For a week or so it has been discussed to save a copy of the full EA directory of client 5.0.9.1 as latest. You can copy that entire directory back to the C:\ and be back to 5.0.9.1. If you do not have a backup, you can reload from scratch. Then do patches as usual. Pay close attention. Right after it patches 5.0.9.1 and says downloading 6.0.0.0 hit cancel. That stops the patch right there, You are patched to the desired place and all is good.
This whole issue with EA Games may become complex. We at PF will have to evaluate things closely before jumping on any new patch. EA is moving towards KR. We will not become KR. We are SE and ML. This will most likely be the latest Publish.
This by no means that PF will become static. There are still a thousand things that can be done to make our world better. We are only limited by our imaginations and my scripting skill of course. Suggestions from our players. There are presently enough scripting to be done that can keep me busy for years. These are ideas, suggestion, uncompleted projects and so on. We will be here as long as we are allowed, as long as I have staff to help me and as long as I wake up each day.
Bottom line for now. Don't patch past client version 5.0.9.1. And check with staff or forums for info if this changes.
