Today I took down the server and rebooted it from power-off. I also rebooted the router from power-off to see if we could clear up the recent lag issues.
While I had the server off, I did some speed tests with Speedtest.net. I tested speeds to many different parts of the country. From as close as 100 miles to over 2000 miles. The tests were all different.
I had results from as low as 600k download, 250k upload to as high as 9 meg download, 860k upload. This is a vast difference. The line here is supposed to be the high numbers I tested 9m, 850k.
What these test tell me is that there are issues all around the country. The few high responses were not the closest to me. The high numbers came from different parts of the country as did the low numbers.
Just from trying to put things together, it seems our issues started about the same time the large heat wave hit the country. I have no way to prove this but it sure seems to coincide. Technically speaking, I know that all the routers and amplifiers used across the internet use Temperature Compensation circuits. They change the way the amplifiers and routers act as temperatures change. That was the problem months ago when we had the dropped connection problems. It was an amplifier that was not working well when the temperature changed.
From the tests I ran here, it tells me that my direct connection is working well else I would never have had the 9m, 850k response to anywhere. The tests tell me that there are many other areas of the country that are having issues. Not necessarily an area problem, but could the the links from major hubs to the next hub.
I truly believe that when the weather gets better, our lines across the country will get better. I called a friend of mine that works internet. He told me they were having issues from different part of the country also and they have a direct fiber link. Some places had great response and some, lousy. We also have that kind of differences. Some of you are having lag issues and some are not.
All we can do is bare with it and hope the weather changes soon. I think it will get worse before it gets better. The weather forecasters say the temps will be bad for the next week or more.
I hope this does not break up our family. I understand if it gets too frustrating to play but please don't leave us. I know it will get better.
